I am sure you find many definitions of hypnosis on the internet, but I notice the definition of hypnosis tends to confuse people more than to make it clear. After using it for many years, this is my version of what hypnosis is.
You can think of hypnosis as a tool. A tool to help you get to a relaxed and calm state so that you can access your subconscious to create desired change.
Just like if you need to take a door off the frame, you need screwdriver to help you unscrew all the screws off the hinge so that you can remove the door. Hypnosis is that tool that allows you to bypass the critical layer of the mind which is like the door/guard to your subconscious mind. Where a screwdriver loosens the screw, hypnosis loosens your nervous system which helps you get to a relaxed and calm place.
To make it more simple
What do you do when you are hungry?
--Eat to feed the body.
What do you do when you are thirsty?
--Drink to quench the thirst.
What do you do when you want to gain strength in your body?
--Exercise and train the body.
What do you do when you want changes that lasts?
--Change it from the root, so they don’t come back.
How to change things from the root?
-- Go to your subconscious mind because that’s where your identity, values, habits, behaviors, stories and old programing lives.
How to get to the subconscious mind?
--Using this tool called hypnosis.
At the very basic level, hypnosis is just a tool helping you access your subconscious mind.
How?
By taking you to an extremely relaxed and comfortable state which you experience every day before you fall asleep. The state of hypnosis (some people use the word trance; it doesn’t matter what the vocabulary is) is a state where you are in between awake and asleep.
Why does it work?
When you are in between awake and asleep, your critical layer of the mind which is like the guard for your subconscious mind, feels safe enough to take a break, when it is on a break, you have access to your subconscious mind.
Boom, done! it’s that simple!
Hopefully this made it easy for you to understand what hypnosis is and how hypnosis work.
With love,
Anna
